News: Another Road Win, Double Digits For Softball
The Pasadena City College softball team won its second straight South Coast Conference road game Tuesday while reaching double figures in runs once again in a 12-1, six-inning rout over host El Camino College-Compton Center.
The Lancers are 12-13 under second-year head coach Brittany Williams, including a .500 mark in conference at 4-4. This month, PCC has scored 10 or more runs in all four of its victories.
At Compton, the Lancers held a slim 3-1 lead going into the top of the sixth, then proceeded to score nine runs in sending 14 batters to the plate. Shortstop Katelyn Thordarson, who batted 3-for-5, ripped a 3-RBI triple to highlight the long offensive display. It was her second hit of the inning. The game was called after six innings due to the 8-run mercy rule.
Second baseman Emily Cuiriz (pictured) went 2-for-3 with two RBI while third baseman Audrey Serna batted 2-for-5 with a double. Catcher Allison Lacey, centerfielder Monica Enriquez, and designated player Natalie Ficocelli each had one hit and one RBI while first baseman Sara Quintero drew three hit by pitches in her four trips to the plate (0-for-1).
Pitcher Cierra Newton, out with an injury the past few weeks, returned to the circle and hurled a 4-hitter with four strikeouts to even her record at 5-5. Compton's (2-13, 0-8 in SCC play) lone highlight was a triple by outfielder Brenda Fermin.
The Lancers return to Robinson Park Thursday, March 14 when they host Cerritos College in a 2 p.m. conference contest.
