News: PCC Men Split Cerritos Swim Double Dual
In its final dual South Coast Conference meet, the Pasadena City College men's swim team defeated LA Trade Tech, 131-102, while losing to host Cerritos College, 196-69, on March 28.
The Lancers are in sixth place in the SCC standings (2-5), and received a bit of a jolt when sophomore Stephen To was beaten in the 100-yard butterfly by Cerritos swimmer Nathan Unpornpuckdi, 55.05 seconds to To's 56.70. To (San Marino High) did win the 200 butterfly, the same event he won the state title in last year, in a time of 1:59.38. To also took second in the 100 freestyle (50.60).
Michael Chiodo (Kennedy High) was the lone Lancer to score two wins as he swam a 2:09.60 to easily take the 200 backstroke and clocked a 57.08 mark to take first in the 100 backstroke. Chiodo nearly had three wins, but was edged out at the wall in the 200 individual medley by Cerritos' Joshua Owens. Chiodo swam 2:05.91 to finish only .38 of a second behind Owens.
John Darrin Smith (Maranatha High) picked up a victory in the 200 breaststroke at 2:30.03.
The Lancers hosts the 13th Pasadena Invitational on Friday-Saturday, April 5-6 at the PCC Aquatic Center. PCC will then compete in the SCC Championships (diving at El Camino College, April 12-13) at Chaffey College April 18-20.
