News: Women's Swim Owns Bevy Of Top SCC Seed Times
In a record-setting year in Pasadena City College women's swimming, the Lancers hold a number of top seed times going into the 2013 South Coast Conference Championships to be held Thursday-Saturday, April 18-20 at Chaffey College.
The PCC relay unit of Emily Frederick, Shannon Cheung, Arolyn Basham and Paige Watroba have the fastest conference times in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:43.42), the 400 freestyle relay (3:47.52), the 800 freestyle relay (8:15.46), and 400 medley relay (4:14.61).
The freshman Frederick, who is a part of 10 PCC school records, has the fastest conference marks in the 50 freestyle (24.91), the 50 backstroke (29.16), and the 100 freestyle (53.46). Cheung, also a freshman, is a conference-best in the 200 individual medley (2:13.46) and 100 backstroke (1:03.37). Watroba, the team's only sophomore, paces the SCC in the 100 butterfly at 1:03.61.
Cheung is second seeded in the 500 freestyle (5:17.84) while Basham holds the No. 2 seed in the 100 IM (1:04.93), 50 breaststroke (32.78), and 100 breaststroke (1:11.42).
In the PCC men's competition, sophomore and defending state champion Stephen To holds the top seed time in the 200 butterfly at 1:56.13 and is second in the 100 butterfly (52.06). Michael Chiodo is second fastest in the 200 backstroke at 2:05.26.
The Lancers swim teams are directed by head coach Terry Stoddard.
