News: PCC Hires New Softball Head Coach

Monica Platts-Tantlinger has been hired as Pasadena City College's new softball head coach. The part-time position will allow Platts-Tantlinger to make her Lancers' debut to begin the 2014 season in January.

She replaces Brittany Williams, who has moved on to the NCAA Division III level in taking the head coaching position at Finlandia University in Hancock, Michigan. Williams directed the Lancers in the 2011 and 2012 seasons after serving as an assistant coach here in 2010.

It will be the first head coaching job for Platts-Tantlinger after being an assistant coach this past season at East Los Angeles College. Her coaching resume includes extensive Division I experience as an assistant at Purdue University (2009-2012) and UC Riverside (2006-2009).

Platts-Tantlinger was a California Community College student-athlete herself when she played as an All-Foothill Conference player at Antelope Valley College in 2002-2003. She went on to earn a scholarship to play at Cal State Fullerton and later was an undergraduate assistant coach for the Titans in 2005-2006.

Platts-Tantlinger, who earned a B.A. degree in communications at CS Fullerton and a master's in kinesiology at Texas College, becomes just the sixth head coach in the history of PCC softball.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to be a head coach, and look forward to building the Lancers into a top South Coast Conference program," Platts-Tantlinger said. "I understand the nature of being a player and coach at this level. There's a great history here that was created by a legendary coach in Sandi Iverson. One of my goals is to bring PCC back into postseason play."

Editor's note: The new head coach will be referred to as "Monica Tantlinger" in all future references on the PCC website and external releases.
