News: LBCC Hands Women's Soccer 2-1 Loss
With the Pasadena City College women's soccer team still playing without two key starters due to injury, the Lancers did what they could Tuesday but the absences of top playmakers Amanda Papac and Cassandra Saavedra were part of the difference in the Lancers' 2-1 loss to visiting Long Beach City College at Robinson Stadium.
The Lancers suffered their first South Coast Conference loss at 1-1-1 and are 3-3-3 overall. The Vikings improved to 3-0 in conference and 7-1-1 overall.
Long Beach jumped ahead 2-0 before the Lancers hit paydirt in the 44th minute when Cassandra Orozco's free kick got through the legs of Vikings' goalie Karen Nunez. Neither team scored in the second half.
LBCC took a 1-0 lead on a give-and-go play where Rocio Hernandez tapped in a short range shot off the pass of Brenda Reyes in the 21st minute. In the 32nd minute, Lilliana Montano ripped a free kick from 28 yards out for a 2-0 Long Beach lead.
Pasadena goalie Angie Ulmer made three saves. Long Beach outshot PCC, 13-6.
On defense, the Lancers received a huge performance by freshman defender Bailey Shaw, who blocked several shots in the goalie box and prevented Long Beach from several scoring opportunities.
