News: Women's Cagers Upend No. 1 Long Beach For Irvine Tourney Title
The Pasadena City College women's basketball team is serving notice it belongs high on the state rankings after outlasting state No. 1-ranked Long Beach City College, 69-64, in overtime to capture the Irvine Valley Tournament title. The No. 7-rated Lancers won their second straight tourney championship, extended their winning streak to six games, and improved to 7-2 overall.
PCC handed the Vikings (7-1) their first loss of the season. Tournament MVP Skai Thompson lifted the Lancers with five points and two steals in the 5-minute overtime period that clinched the victory.
Overall, Parks scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds while Loving, an All-Irvine Tournament selection, totaled 15 points. Thompson, a transfer guard, added seven points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists. Sophomore forward Tyler Crockom contributed eight points and 14 rebounds plus four assists. Off the bench, Kiara Phillips scored eight points while Williams notched six points and five rebounds.
Abbey Goodsell scored 18 points to lead Long Beach. One of the big factors for Pasadena was it made 25 free throws (40 attempts) to just seven made by the Vikings (16 shots). PCC also outrebounded the LBCC, 67-51.
The Lancers will travel to face Los Angeles Pierce College in a non-conference game on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
