News: Pegg Fits For Softball In Coach Tantlinger's First Win

After 10 innings without a run this season, the Pasadena City College softball team was just looking to cross the plate for the first time in 2014 on Friday night. Enter freshman designated player Jennifer Pegg who delivered the big hit to help Monica Tantlinger pick up her first victory as PCC head coach in a 2-0 blanking of Imperial Valley at the College of the Desert Best on Grass Tournament.

[Late edit--scoring change changed RBI).

With the teams tied, 0-0, in the bottom of the sixth, catcher Allison Lacey and second baseman Audrey Serna strung together singles. Pegg (Temple City High, pictured) then ripped a 2-RBI single to left field that scored both Lacey and Serna for the decisive runs.

Breanna Rodrigo, who had allowed just one hit through five innings, pitched a brilliant 4-hitter for the complete-game win played at Palm Desert's Civic Center Park. Rodrigo struck out three and left two runners on base in the seventh to finish the victory.

The Lancers (1-2 overall) later lost to host Desert, 12-1, in the second of four tournament games.

Today, Feb. 1, PCC plays Barstow at 12:30 p.m. and then Grossmont at 3 p.m. at the COD tourney.
