Pasadena City College Small Business Development Center Partners with USC Marshall School of Business Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies

Pasadena, Calif., The Pasadena City College Small Business Development Center is joining forces with the USC Marshall School of Business’ Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies for a 10-week accelerator program designed to push startup companies to the next level.

AIM (Accelerate + Incubate + Mentor) - a program launched in 2012 at USC, provides entrepreneurs with the resources designed to improve the odds of success for startups.  The Greif Center offers instructions for business models including growth strategies, branding and marketing and financial strategies.

The PCC Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has partnered with the Greif Center to provide one-on-one training on managing the non-technical side of the business, the "back room" activities.  "Many samll businesses fail in the early years because the business was not properly managed in the back office.  The back office is the backbone of an organization and without back office support, it is almost impossible to run the core business effectively," said Salvatrice Cummo, Director of the PCC SBDC.

According to Cummo, “AIM teams will have direct access to consultants – at no cost- to help guide and align them to proper resources, including funding, accounting, graphic artists and marketing experts, to name a few.  Ultimately, this partnership will foster growth and help each company reach measurable milestones."

Mack Robinson: Second to None By Cameron Turner

Sometimes we have no idea that we’re in standing the presence of greatness.  As students at John Muir High School in the late 1970s and early ‘80s, we often saw the unassuming elderly gentleman on campus. He always had warm words of advice, encouragement and expectation for us kids. He’d ask students about homework, inquire about family members, warn them to stay away from drugs and insist that they go to class. But a lot of us had no idea that this man, Mr. Robinson, was a living legend.

PCC In The News: Build A Network on Campus as a Community College Student (Featured In: US News & World Report)

Reprinted From US News & World Report, June 26, 2014; By:  Delece Smith-Barrow

For many community college students, finding a sense of community on campus can be challenging.

They fall into a routine that Dave Leenhouts, vice president of student services at Wharton County Junior College in Texas, calls "PCP": parking lot, class and then back to the parking lot where they drive off.

"Community college students are historically commuters," he says. Many of these schools do not have residence halls, which help students engage with their campus, professors and peers outside of class hours, Leenhouts says. Community college students often don't spend extra hours at school.
