Prerequisite(s): Maintain enrollment in 7 or more units including field practice.
Theoretical concepts. Observation methodology. Social, philosophical and political foundations of education. Fundamental knowledge of the American educational system in urban multicultural schools. Supervised field experience in approved educational settings from kindergarten through high school. Observation, planning and guiding learning. Routine classroom activities. Practical application of theoretical concepts. Field experience hours may be used to meet CSU Teacher Preparation admissions requirements. Serves as a foundation for future induction into the classroom. Maximum credit 6 units, 3 units each semester. Total of 36 hours lecture and 90 hours field experience. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC Grading: Letter Grade or Pass/No Pass

Introduction to various learning styles, tutorial strategies and techniques; selected problems encountered by those rendering tutorial service. Recommended tutor eligibility requirements, which include faculty referral and satisfactory score on any required department diagnostic test. Total of 18 hours lecture. Grading: Letter Grade or Pass/No Pass
Students meet as a group for the first class session
and the final exam only. All other weekly assignments are
delivered through e-mail, allowing students flexibility in
completing their coursework. This course is part of the
curriculum leading towards a School-Age Instructional
Assistant certificate.

Preprofessional training of teacher aides and teaching assistants for elementary school.
