Provides the knowledge and skill necessary in an emergency to help sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives. American Red Cross certificates will be issued to successful candidates in First Aid - Responding to Emergencies and Adult CPR. Total of 54 hours lecture. Prerequisite(s): Swimming skills, equivalent to the ARC Swimmers Certificate, ability to swim 500 yards continuously, and ARC Basic or Emergency Water Safety Certificate or ARC Safety training for swim coaches.
Theory and practice of swimming strokes, diving, lifesaving, teaching methods and emergency procedures. Preparation for and completion of tests for American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instructor, First Aid, Community CPR, CPR/BLS and Instructor Candidate Training Certificates.
