A student taking his/her first mathematics course at Pasadena City College must meet the course prerequisites listed AND may be asked to take a placement test. Once placed in the proper mathematics source, students advance in the sequence according to PCC course prerequisites. Placement tests alone do not qualify a student for a course. If more than one semester has elapsed since a student qualified for a course, it is recommended that the student retake the previous mathematics course (excluding plane geometry) OR take a placement test. A placement test is valid for enrolling in courses which begin within one year after taking the test. A student wishing to retake a placement test must wait at least eight weeks to repeat the test; however, the test may be retaken only once during a testing cycle.
