Program Overview: Field trips and classroom exercises will be conducted at PCC from January 9 to 23. Then students will learn about many different environments and ecosystems while traveling around Costa Rica from January 27 to February 8.
Field and classroom activities will cover diverse topics such as: climate change, air and water pollution, ecotourism, identification and natural history of birds, mammals, lower vertebtrates and plants, data collection methods, biodiversity estimates, habitat destruction and conservation. These courses will blend together global and local perspectives in order to identify and understand environmental issues. Students will experience and learn first-hand as we visit different environments and ecosystems in Costa Rica. PROGRAM FEE: $3,195 (excluding PCC fees, airport tax, and personal expenses).
BIOL 14 FIELD BIOLOGY 4 Units

Prerequisite(s): None.
Birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, trees and shrubs of Southern California. Identification, ecology methods of observing and recording. Required instructional trips. Total of 54 hours lecture and 54 hours laboratory. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC Grading: Letter Grade or Pass/No Pass

ENVS 1 INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE 4 Units

Relationship of living organisms to the environment, including human impact on the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere. Emphasis is placed on understanding of biological and physical science issues currently faced by society. Includes laboratory and field investigation of ecosystems and the environment. No credit if taken after Biol 37, Biol 40 or Physc 37. Total of 54 hours lecture and 54 hours laboratory. Transfer credit: CSU; UC credit under review. Grading: Letter Grade or Pass/No Pass
