DSPS - Assistive Technology Center

Welcome to the Assistive Technology Center

The Assistive Technology Center (ATC) is a facility designed for students, faculty, and staff to learn to use the latest assistive hardware and software to promote the academic success of students with disabilities.

 

The ATC is located in room D208 across the hall from Disabled Students Programs and Services on the second floor. There is an accessible entrance on the west side of the D Building.

Rules and Procedures for the ATC

Be prepared to identify yourself when entering the ATC lab with your:

• Name and Student ID Number, and
• Inform ATC staff what technology you intend to use
• Assistive technology training appointments can be made at the Front Desk in D209.
• Only sealable water bottles are allowed
• Walkways should be clear of loose articles such as backpacks and purses.
• Conversation volumes should be kept to a minimum and phone calls made outside the ATC .
• Bring your own paper and print only school-related material.
• Rooms A, B, and C in D-208 can be arranged with DSP&S staff.  Please be advised that these rooms are constantly monitored by closed circuit television.
• The Security and Acceptable Use of Electronic Resources and Student Conduct and Academic Honesty Policies must be followed at all times. 
• Please follow all instructions by DSP&S staff.
• In an event of an emergency, exit the building by the ramp located on the west side of the building.

 

Resources

The ATC is equipped with fifteen PCs and two Macs with assistive software for literacy, screen reading, screen magnification, and voice recognition.  All the work stations are on electric height adjustable tables with adjustable monitor arms and ergonomic keyboard trays.  Along with the assistive
work stations, there are assistive devices available for students to check out for use in classrooms, labs, or at home. 

Individualized training on any of the ATC’s assistive technology is available by appointment.  Please contact the assistive technology specialist to make arrangements. Accessible Instructional Material

If you are a student with a qualifying print disability, the ATC will convert printed course materials in to an accessible format.  If you believe you have a print disability and would qualify for this service, remember to discuss all accommodations including receiving your instructional material in a more accessible format with your teacher specialist.  If together you decide this is appropriate, contact the assistive technology specialist.

Get involved

 

Students Unlimited is a club that meets in the ATC every Thursday at 12:15.   The goal of Students Unlimited is to provide a supportive climate for all students, and to promote disability awareness.

• The ATC gives hiring preference to applicants from the federal work-study program.
