Student E-mail off-campus Access

ACCESSING YOUR STUDENT PCC E-MAIL MESSAGES FROM OFF CAMPUS

  1. If you are going to access your e-mail from off campus you must have an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
  2. Due to the wide range of Web Browsers and E-Mail programs in use it is not possible for ICC to provide configuration assistance. You should request technical support from your ISP.
  3. If you receive e-mail through another address, note the settings on your e-mail system before you change them. Unless your e-mail program stores information on several addresses you will have to restore the settings for your primary e-mail box after you finish accessing your PCC e-mail

When you enter the data necessary for your e-mail program to retrieve messages from PCC you will be asked for certain information: Your POP(3) and your SMTP. The POP(3) is a Post Office Protocol and SMTP is a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Protocols are sets of standards by which computers connect and, in this instance, distribute and receive e-mail.

Your POP(3) server name for student e-mail at Pasadena City College is: mail.paccd.cc.ca.us. Please notice that this is the extension of your PCC e-mail following the @ key. Your POP user name is the letters and numbers preceding the @ key.

Your SMTP is provided by your ISP and will be listed in the current settings for your e-mail program. As we noted before, it is best to write this information down before changing any of your e-mail settings. When you enter the data to access your PCC e-mail, use the same SMTP as you do for your ISP’s email program. When you are working from off campus you will still be sending your e-mail from the off campus service provider.

Usually the information will be entered under Preferences, Tools/Accounts, or Settings. The Help function on your software should explain how to set up your account information.

Just remember these examples:

JJB4531@MAIL.PACCD.CC.CA.US

JJB4531 = POP USER NAME; MAIL.PACCD.CC.CA.US = POP SERVER NAME

JJB4531 = POP3 ACCOUNT; MAIL.PACCD.CC.CA.US = INCOMING MAIL (POP3)

If you enter the proper information into the configuration for your e-mail program, your system should properly access your PCC e-mail account. PLEASE USE THE HELP SCREENS FOR YOUR E-MAIL PROGRAM TO ASSIST YOU IN USING IT.
