Welcome to the Learning Assistance Center

The Learning Assistance Center (LAC) is a facility designed to offer academic support to students of Pasadena City College for the purpose of promoting scholastic success.

It is located on the third floor of the D building on the campus of PCC, with additional computing labs on the first floor and in the W Building. The main telephone number is (626) 585-7230. Check out the links to the right for more specific information.

The LAC is closed to the public or has limited hours during certain holidays and session dates.

Screen reader users:
Tab into the tool bar.
Then turn the virtual cursor/buffer off to enable pass-through mode.
For JAWS: Insert + Z.
For NVDA: Caps Lock + Space Bar.
For Window-Eyes: Ctrl + Shift + A.
Right and left arrow keys navigate tool bar controls.
Keyboard shortcuts are also available while in pass-through mode:
Alt Control P for play and pause.
Alt Control S for stop.
Alt control M for mute.
Alt control R doubles size of player.
Alt control T toggles focus between elapsed time and toolbar.
VoiceOver users: Use the Enable Player VoiceOver Access button to make the toolbar button text display and then use the Focus Toolbar button to jump into the toolbar. (VoiceOver with Safari 3, only. Safari 4 beta does not work with toolbar. Disable VoiceOver and use keyboard shortcuts.)

LAC Policies

Please observe the following while using the LAC:

  • Scan in and out with your Lancer Card
  • No eating or drinking (only bottled water is allowed)
  • No smoking
  • No children
  • Turn cell phones off or to vibrate, and take calls outside
  • Internet access is for educational purposes
  • Materials are for on-site use; they are not to be taken out of the LAC. Please do not write in materials or duplicate them, as they are copyrighted and were purchased only for use in our Center.

Resources

The LAC has a 42-station network which offers interactive software, Internet access, and a number of applications. Stations are connected to a chargeback laser printer. Other media available in the LAC include instructional DVDs, printed materials, and accompanying audio CDs.

Reserve Materials

Faculty members are encouraged to place materials on reserve in the LAC and to recommend software which could help their students to be added to the LAC Network. The Center is open 75 hours each week, including evenings and Saturdays.

Tutoring Services

Tutoring is offered on a walk-in basis for various transfer subjects. Students with declared career and technical majors may receive group tutoring in any of their major-related courses as well as support for most transfer subjects.

The Learning Assistance Center has eight full-time staff and approximately forty student assistants who assist in various shifts throughout the week.
