Faculty

Brian Kennedy, Ph.D.

Dr. Kennedy is an Associate Professor in the English Department at PCC.  He has taught at the college for ten years, and this is his second study abroad trip to Oxford.  His academic specialty is contemporary British literature, and his courses in the Oxford program take advantage of being in England to explore the settings of the works and to experience the culture from a first-hand perspective.  In addition to his academic work, Dr. Kennedy writes about NHL hockey and about auto racing.  His creative non-fiction book, Growing Up Hockey, came out in fall 2007.  (In case you’re wondering—there is professional hockey in England, as he discovered to his delight in 2004.) Dr. Kennedy’s big plan for this trip: to buy a bicycle and pedal it through the countryside surrounding Oxford.

Derek Milne

Professor Milne is an Instructor in the Social Sciences Division at PCC, where he teaches anthropology, history and ethnic studies courses.  This is his fourth year at Pasadena.  He is currently finishing his doctoral dissertation in anthropology at UCLA.  He conducted his ethnographic fieldwork among the Navajo Indians, living on their reservation for three years while doing research on their language, religious practices and a variety of public health-related topics.  He also taught English and anthropology at Navajo Community College during this time. As an undergraduate he spent a year abroad at the University of Birmingham in England and is now thrilled to be going back as a teacher in the study abroad program.
