DEFINITION
Under the direction of the appropriate dean, provides instructional support to the Photography program by preparing or providing lead direction in the preparation of, demonstration materials, and the distribution and control of study materials and equipment.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):
- Maintains responsibility for supplies and the custody and maintenance of equipment used for instructional purposes in photography, cinema and video technology.
- Assist faculty in set up and tear down of laboratory demonstrations and experiments.
- Prepares, or provides lead direction to others preparing, lab apparatus, solutions used in photography, and camera/video equipment.
- Provides lead direction in the scheduling of work so that instructional materials are ready for the appropriate lab at the appropriate time.
- Receives, issues, stores and cares for equipment, materials, chemicals and solutions.
- Collects hazardous waste from the laboratories and prepares for proper disposal
- Maintains inventory records on equipment, supplies, and other materials; dispatches appropriate materials for salvage.
- Develops instructional materials; collects or assembles samples to illustrate units of study or areas of concentration.
- Initiates and processes requisitions for obtaining replacement of equipment and supplies as needed.
- Works with vendors to stay abreast of improvements in equipment/reagents.
- Operates, uses, and may repair or adjust a variety of equipment necessary to conduct work, such as printers, processors, enlargers, video equipment, digital photographic equipment, various cameras, and other types of photography equipment.
- Trains others on use of equipment.
- Maintains, or provides lead direction to others in, the upkeep and organization of the stockroom and lab rooms; maintains security of the stockroom, labs, and equipment.
- Performs periodic minor maintenance, repair, and adjustment of equipment; performs miscellaneous troubleshooting on equipment.
- Designs and constructs installation of new equipment.
- Uses hand and power tools, hot glue and soldering apparatus.
- Answers students’ questions.
- Keeps records; duplicates materials.
- Picks up and intakes emergency supplies and donated equipment; transports equipment for repair.
- Checks out equipment to employees and students.
- Collects and accounts for fees.
- Works closely with faculty to evaluate the equipment needs for current and future courses; selects, sources, prices, and acquires necessary equipment.
- Learns and maintains computer equipment that relates to operation of the photo lab.
OTHER DUTIES:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Completion of an Associate’s degree in a field appropriate to this assignment and
One year of appropriate experience.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Laboratory equipment, materials, supplies, and procedures appropriate to the photography and cinema/video areas.
- Elementary stock control methods.

- Organize workload so that laboratory materials are available and set up at appropriate times.
- Maintain, use and perform minor repairs on equipment and instruments used in labs.

- Modify and devise equipment and instruments.
- Troubleshoot and do minor repairs on devices found in the laboratories.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Ensure compliance with local, state and federal guidelines, policies, rules, and regulations.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in the classifications regularly bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 40 pounds, walk and stand for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of hand-power tools, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, and kneeling or crouching.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Employees work in an office environment with excessive noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and exposure to photo chemistry substances and odors. Employees work near hazardous/moving equipment or machinery. Employees use protective clothing, equipment, devices, and/or materials. Employees may interact with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
