DEFINITION

With limited direction and supervision, performs journey level work maintaining, repairing, servicing, and operating a major plumbing system consisting of, but not limited to drains, sewers, sumps, sump pumps, toilets, urinals, water filtration systems, distilled water systems R.O. water systems, drinking fountains, hose bibs, and other outdoor plumbing fixtures, equipment, and systems, check backflow devises, vacuum systems, small domestic hot water heaters, and piping normally associated with plumbing systems.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

  1. Checks, diagnoses, repairs, replaces, adjusts and/or installs plumbing systems consisting of, but not limited to drains, sewers, sump pumps, toilets, traps, urinals, water filtration systems, distilled water systems, R.O. water systems, drinking fountains, hose bibs, backflow devises, vacuum systems, small domestic hot water heaters, and piping normally associated with plumbing systems.
  2. Prepares requisitions for necessary parts and equipment; determines cost of materials and labor and/or coordinates repairs recommends replacement when necessary, of if repair is not feasible.
  3. Checks, evaluates, adjusts and services diagnoses, maintains plumbing systems consisting of, but not limited to drains, sewers, sukps, sump pumps, toilets, traps, urinals, water filtration systems.
  4. Assists with layout and installs major equipment; plans layout and installs minor equipment relating to plumbing systems.
  5. Performs pipe cutting threading, fitting, and soldering relating to plumbing systems.
  6. Reports equipment problems, malfunctions, and operational status to supervisor.
  7. Answers emergency calls at all hours, as needed.
  8. At the request of a supervisor, performs a variety of unscheduled duties generally related to the functions of the plumbing trade and other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and five years of apprenticeship, or five years’ full-time documented work experience in plumbing and at least one year of full-time experience as a licensed journey plumber.

Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of the materials, tools, equipment, and methods of the plumbing trade; knowledge of plumbing codes. Ability to read blueprints; ability to estimate labor and materials requirements; ability to interpret and work from drawings and blueprints; ability to work cooperatively with others; ability to work in a multi-ethnic environment. Must read, write, and speak English.

Other Requirements: Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment standard to the plumbing trade. Documentation of work experience and Journeyman Plumbers License. A valid California Driver License

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:Six months.
