In the last decade, there has been a remarkable growth in the field of music
education for young children. Parents and educators alike are increasingly aware
that music is linked to a wide array of benefits for children.
The Pasadena City College Certificate Program in Early Childhood Education
is one of only a handful of programs around the country to offer extensive training
in music education targeted specifically for early childhood (birth to eight
years old). We offer training that combines the rapidly growing insights
of modern research with the vision and time-tested practices from the finest
minds of our music education heritage.
The program provides hands-on instruction in all of the skills and knowledge
that teachers need to successfully guide the musical experiences of young children.
Participants learn a rich body of musical activities and games in four areas
— singing, movement, playing instruments and listening. They practice
effective teaching techniques, explore the musical development of young children,
and become acquainted with invaluable, state-of-the-art teaching materials.
Even veteran teachers will find fresh ideas and renewed motivation.
Our goal is to enable students to exit the program fully trained, confident
and ready to teach.
