News: Highly acclaimed crime novelist and former journalist Denise Hamilton is PCCs 2013 Writer in Residence.
Ms. Hamilton is the best-selling author of five contemporary crime novels in the Eve Diamond series and The Last Embrace, set in 1949 Hollywood and inspired by the real-life disappearance of starlet Jean Spangler. She is also editor of the Edgar award-winning short story anthologies Los Angeles Noir and Los Angeles Noir 2: The Classics. Her crime novels are widely praised for their gritty and glamorous portrayal of her hometown Los Angeles and have been finalists for almost every mystery award.
Prior to writing novels, Denise was a Los Angeles Times reporter and Fulbright Scholar; she also writes a monthly perfume column for the Los Angeles Times Magazine. Critics have called Damage Control, her latest novel, "excellent" and "her largest and greatest triumph."
As Writer in Residence, Ms. Hamilton will visit the PCC campus from Oct. 15 to 17 and be featured at three events that are open to the public, including two writing workshops and a public reading. The events are free and open to all though participation in the workshops may be limited.
One Writing Workshop will take place on the PCC campus, on Wed., Oct. 16, from 12-1:30 p.m., in the Circadian. A second Writing Workshop will take place at the Pasadena Senior Center, also on Wed., Oct. 16, from 2:30-4 p.m. The Reading will take place on Thur., Oct. 17, from 7-9 p.m. in Creveling Lounge, on the PCC campus. The PCC bookstore will be on hand, selling copies of Ms. Hamilton’s latest novel Damage Control.
Ms. Hamilton will also visit several classrooms, speaking with creative writing and composition courses. A luncheon with English Division faculty will be held in her honor.
