News: Forensics Team Impresses at PSCFA Spring Championship Tournament
Pasadena City College’s Speech and Debate Team left the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association (PSCFA) Spring Championship Tournament with a 3rd Place Overall Sweepstakes Award in the Community College Division.
“That means we rank third place in our region,” said PCC Instructor Cindy Phu. “We are so proud of our students.”
There were 41 schools, including community colleges and universities, 218 debate teams and 728 individual events. The tournament was held Feb. 22-24 at Cal State Long Beach.
In Debate, students Anna Yan and Ricardo Delgado placed in the Parliamentary Lincoln-Douglas Debates. Yan also placed in Parliamentary Debate, along with students Denise Payan, Robert Camou and Clarence Irvin.
For Speech, Alayna Leibman, Jessica Juarez and Ricardo Lopez all won awards in Prose Interpretation. Urian D’Silva was a finalist for Prose Interpretation, Drama Interpretation, and a Duo Interpretation with Kevin Cheairs. Cheairs also won in Drama Interpretation, along with Tory Tunzi. Alex Cameron and Sarah Kwon placed in Persuasive Speaking. Kwon was also a finalist in Informative Speaking. Michelle Washington and Stephanie Mu were both finalists in Poetry Interpretation.
The team is preparing for the State Championship in Woodland Hills coming up March 13-17.
