It appears the 2012-2013 South Coast Conference season will be another struggle for the Pasadena City College women's basketball team. Despite a current No. 11 ranking in the state (eighth in the Southland), the Lancers dropped to 2-3 in conference play as host Los Angeles Southwest College upset them, 84-81, Jan. 11.

The loss snapped PCC's 13-game winning streak over the Cougars, who last beat the Lancers more than a decade ago on Jan. 4, 2002 (61-50).

Pasadena (12-5) couldn't overcome the high scoring of LASW guard Cranesha Jennings, who tallied 31 points, including four 3-pointers and an outstanding 11-for-12 from the free throw line. The Cougars (6-8, 3-2) converted 30 of 47 free throws overall compared to 18 of 32 by the Lancers.

For PCC, point guard Shay Jackson (pictured) scored 19 of her team-high 23 points in the second half to try to keep her team in it. Jackson, who added seven assists, was 12-for-15 from the line.

Stella Ghazarian, a sophomore guard, added 15 points, including four first-half 3-point bombs. Freshman center Kaitlyn Parks contributed 10 points and six rebounds. Reserve frosh forward Sarah Jackson (seven rebounds), sophomore guard Sabrina Martinez, and starting forward Tyler Crockom each had seven points.

For LASW, Tinesha Duckworth turned in a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Fifty-one fouls were called on the two teams (25 on PCC).

The Lancers are on a three-game road trip and will play SCC contests this week at No. 14-ranked East Los Angeles College on Wednesday, Jan. 16 and at Los Angeles Trade Tech on Friday, Jan. 18. Both games have 6 p.m. tip-offs.
