News: Cerritos Hands Men's Cagers 3rd Straight Loss
For the third straight game, the Pasadena City College men's basketball team let its opponent jump out to a big lead, and while the Lancers rallied, they again fell short in a 95-85, South Coast Conference defeat at Cerritos College Friday night. The Falcons hosted their first home game on campus since 2010 due to renovations on the Cerritos Aviary gym.
Cerritos (12-7) leads the SCC South Division with a perfect 6-0 league mark. The Lancers continued their fall in the SCC North, now at 6-13, 2-4 in conference and fourth place in the division.
Cerritos jumped out to a 15-4 lead and forced PCC to play catch-up the rest of the evening. The Falcons would take a 21-point lead midway through the second half. But Pasadena once again would not lose quietly as Mike Swanegan's sixth 3-pointer of the game closed the gap to 87-82 with 2:14 left. Cerritos used the clock and free throws to end PCC's rally.
For the Lancers, frosh point guard Jeffrey Dockett poured in 24 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds while the sharp-shooting sophomore Swanegan totaled 22 points, making 6-for-11 beyond the 3-point circle. Sophomore forward Marquise Tolson added 12 points off the bench while letterman forward Alec Tatum had nine points and seven rebounds. Reserve freshman forward Bryce Clifton added nine points (and four assists). In a rare start, frosh guard Stephen Shares contributed seven points. Center Lorelle Martin, who had been effective in the paint the previous two games, played just six minutes before a leg injury sidelined him the rest of the game.
Cerritos was led by Kevin Conrad (21 points), Anthony Holliday (19 points), and Marquise Washington, who scored 18 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Lancers host Long Beach City College Wednesday, Jan. 30 in a 7 p.m. SCC tip-off at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
