NEW, RETURNING, AND TRANSFER STUDENTS

GETTING STARTED AT PCC
Check your Permit to Register for the important information.

  1. Your registration date and time.
  2. Your PCC LancerCard ID number.
  3. If you received an Admission Notice email Permit to Register, print and keep it. Then refer to the registration steps below.

STEPS TO REGISTER:

1. Apply for Admission if you are not a continuing PCC student.

If you are a new or returning student you may apply online or in person: Admissions, L building, L113. If you have already applied and have your Permit to Register, continue.

2. CA Residency

  • you may establish residency - Proof of Residency. Present documents from the list that are at least 1 year and 1 day old prior to the beginning of the term for which you are applying.
  • you may qualify for Non-Resident Tuition Exemption (AB 540). Complete the Acrobat PDF document, Acrobat Reader Required.California Non-resident Tuition Exemption Request form

    Submit your documents by mail or in person to the Admissions Office.

3. Apply for Financial Aid bag of money

4. Complete New College Student Orientation:

  • If you are a first time college student, please complete the online orientation. Orientation is required for first time college students seeking a degree or certificate, and anyone planning to transfer to a 4-year institution. You must print the results of the quiz and present to the counseling desk to get an appointment with a counselor.
  • Also view and print a copy of the Adobe Acrobat document.Student Handbook.

5. Take the Placement Test in Math, English, or ESL in Assessment, Building D, Room 205

Allow a minimum of 1 1/2 hours for each subject. Pick up your results at the Advisement Center in the L Bldg., one hour after you complete the test(s) or from your PCC counselor. Review sample test questions online. More information at CollegeBoard ACCUPLACER® Preparation and Sample Questions

(If you have successfully completed college level math or English courses at another college or taken an Accuplacer placement test at another college within the last year, take the transcript or test results to the Advisement Center in the L Building.)

  • Take your printed Admissions Notice emailed Permit to Register and a photo ID to Bldg. D, Rm. 205 (map)
  • No appointment necessary – testing is available on a walk-in basis
  • No calculators allowed for math test, pencil and paper provided
  • Testing Hours:
    • Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
    • Friday 8 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

6. Meet with an Educational Advisor/Counselor

A PCC educational advisor or academic counselor will be able to determine the appropriate level of English and math based on your placement test scores and other measures, or based on classes taken at another college (take the relevant college transcript.)

  • advisement is located in Bldg. L, Room 103, and
  • academic counseling is available in Bldg. L, Room 104. (map)

First-time college students need to complete an orientation and take the placement test before scheduling an appointment with a counselor.


7. Choose your classes from the Schedule of Classescalendar

  • You may want to choose your classes while meeting with a counselor.
  • View the Schedule of Classes online for free or purchase it at the PCC College Bookstore for $1.00.
  • Also refer to the Academic Calendar for important dates & deadlines, and the Schedule of Classes booklet for degree & certificate requirements, transferring to a four-year college, general information about services, matriculation, fee & refund policies, institutional policies, and more.

8. Create Your Personal Identification Number (PIN)

  • Make up a 4-digit number, or use one you already have.
  • To register online, enter your birth month & day as the initial PIN (for example, if your  birthday is May 4, the PIN would be 0504.)   When prompted, change the PIN to the 4-digit number that you want to use.
    OR
  • If you register by phone, use the 4-digit number you made up.
  • MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN YOUR PIN AND KEEP IT FOR FUTURE USE

9. Before registering, clear any course prerequisites

  • at the Advisement Center in the L103D, or to a counselor in L104, (map)
    • use the Adobe Acrobat document.Prerequisite Clearance cover sheet and
    • present appropriate documentation, i.e. transcripts, AccuPlacer scores from another college
  • or mail, or fax as directed on the Adobe Acrobat document.Prerequisite Clearance cover sheet.

10. Register for Classes and Pay Your Fees

On or after your assigned registration date & time:
  • phoneRegister by telephone at (626) 577-6100 and pay (credit or debit card) or,
  • computerRegister online at: http://lancerlink.pasadena.edu and pay (credit or debit card) or, 
  • Register in-person and pay (check or cash only) on the same day

  • You will need your LancerCard ID number (check your confirmation email for your temporary LancerCard ID number), your PIN (see #6), and your date of birth to log on. (You may use your Social Security Number (SSN) or a PCC assigned ID number instead of your LancerCard ID number if necessary.)
  • Fees are due immediately upon registration

11. Class closed or already started?

  • Attend the first class session and ask the instructor to add you to the class and give you a 4-digit Late Add Code. Only instructors have the codes.
  • The instructor will give you the deadline to add using your late add code. 
  • Use the add code immediately either by phone or on-line.Do not take the Add Code to the Registration Office.
  • The code will not work if you are missing a prerequisite or co-requisite, if you have a time conflict, or if your code was already used.
  • To register for a class using a late add code, call (626) 577-6100 or go online to http://lancerlink.pasadena.edu

12. Print your Enrollment Fee Receipt printer

Go to https://lancerlink.pasadena.edu/student_login.htm "Other Online Services"

Keep it for the term. It includes your class schedule, network I. D., PCC email address, and payment information.

13. Order your Books Online. books icon

Go to http://www.pasadena.bkstr.com to find the books required for your courses and purchase them online.

14. Get your PCC LancerCard ID

  • Go to T110, after you have enrolled in classes. (map)
  • Take your Enrollment Fee Receipt (see #12 above.)

15. Need a Parking Permit?park

Take a copy of your enrollment fee receipt (see #12 above) and LancerCard ID to Student Business Services located in the W Bldg.  (map)

Register for the Next Semester as a Continuing Student

  • If you continue to take classes without missing a Fall or Spring semester (Winter and Summer sessions may be skipped) you do not need to reapply for future terms.
  • Registration dates for the next two terms will be automatically assigned to you.
  • Your registration dates & times will be available online at http://lancerlink.pasadena.edu or by phone @ (626) 577-6100:
    • Summer & Fall – end of April
    • Winter & Spring – mid-October
