Is the Math Assessment required?

Yes!  The Math assessment is required of new first-time college students attending Pasadena City College and of all students who would like to enroll in a math course for the first time.

What is the purpose of math assessment?

To recommend a math class that is neither to easy nor too difficult so that you don’t waste time by selecting an inappropriate class.

What is the name of the Math assessment test?

The ACCUPLACER exam is used to assess student skills in math.  All students will take the Elementary Algebra exam to begin with and if they score below a 43 on the exam, the Arithmetic exam will be administered.  If a student scores a 84 or higher on the Elementary Algebra exam, the College Level Math exam will be administered.   If you want to maximize your chances of placing into a college-level math class it is crucial that you perform well in the first few questions you see.
