Welcome to the Noncredit English as a Second Language (ESLN) department at Pasadena City College!

We support the needs of multilingual students whose primary language is not English. We offer a wide variety of courses and programs to help you succeed in reaching your goals:

  • Our integrated skills courses, from beginning through advanced levels (Literacy – Level 5), help you learn to read, write, listen, and speak in English through lessons about workplace, academic and daily living topics.
  • Our targeted skills courses provide you with extra support in particular areas, including conversation, pronunciation, grammar, writing, reading and vocabulary.
  • Our TOEFL course (ESLN 1130) increases your academic skills and will help you pass a standardized test, such as TOEFL or IELTS, to meet your professional or higher education goals.
  • Our Path to Citizenship program integrates English language instruction with lessons in U.S. culture, history, civics and government and helps you pass the USCIS naturalization exam (citizenship test).
  • Our Vocational ESL (VESL) programs assist you in getting a job or starting a career in the U.S.
  • If you are interested in transitioning to credit classes at PCC, you will receive support in our highest level ESLN courses and from the noncredit counseling department.

Completing our ESLN courses and programs will increase your opportunities for successful employment, academic achievement, and participation in the community. In addition, you will earn a Certificate of Competency for each integrated skills level you complete and when you complete a series of two or more targeted skills courses.
