AspirePCC Leadership Institute

Year-long cohort-based leadership institute (7 full days) focused on building leadership skillsets, examining and developing one’s leadership identity, and building a leadership network. This experience is open to faculty, staff, and managers.

Target Audience: All faculty, particularly those interested in building their leadership capacity
Time Commitment: 7 Fridays during the academic year (9:00 am-4:00 pm)

College 1 Institute

Prepares faculty to teach College 1 curriculum, and explores inclusive pedagogical frameworks and approaches that foster positive experiences and outcomes for new PCC students.

Target Audience: Faculty scheduled to teach College 1
Time Commitment: 2-3 sessions prior to Fall semester (9:00 am-4:00 pm)
Application process: Faculty scheduled to teach College 1 will receive an email invitation from the College 1 Coordinator.

Data Trek

Equips participants with the skills, knowledge and vocabulary to engage with the college's data in service of students and institutional effectiveness. Participants also gain the ability to engage with data outside of PCC.

Target Audience: All faculty, particularly those interested in building their data analysis skillsets
Time Commitment: 6 Fridays during the academic year (9:00 am-4:00 pm)

Distance Education

The Distance Education team provides workshops and courses throughout the academic year on a variety of topics related to teaching and learning online.

Dual Enrollment Professional Development

Supports faculty teaching within the dual enrollment program, focusing on effective and inclusive pedagogies for teaching high school students.

Target Audience: Faculty teaching (or interested in teaching) dual enrollment courses
Time Commitment: 2 sessions during the week of Thanksgiving (10:00 am-2:00 pm)
Application process: Invitations to register are sent via the Dual Enrollment office or Division Deans.

Equity Data Coaching

Cohort-based professional development experience that builds capacity for examining data to inform meaningful change in student experience and outcomes. Focuses on both the technical and relational elements of data analysis and sense-making. Cohorts are division-based.

Target Audience: Division-based faculty cohorts
Time Commitment: Varies; semester or year-long engagement
Application process: New cohorts are established through collaboration between Division Deans and IEDJ.

LancerTrak: New Faculty Learning Community

All new full-time faculty will participate in the New Faculty Learning Community to build relationships and community at PCC while learning about their rights and responsibilities as faculty members, resources to support their own and students' learning, and the evaluation and tenure process.

Target Audience: Faculty in their first year at PCC
Time Commitment: 50 hours during the academic year
Application process: The New Faculty Learning Community is required of all new faculty.

LancerTrak: Theory to Practice Learning Community

Theory to Practice is a year-long learning community helping faculty to research, implement, evaluate, and report on an innovation to improve their practice. 

Target Audience: All faculty
Time Commitment: Varies; approx. 20 hours during the academic year
Application process: Invitation to apply will be sent out in the preceding Spring semester. 

LancerTrak: Faculty Facilitator Learning Community

The Faculty Facilitator Learning Community is a year-long learning community helping faculty to learn about, practice, and incorporate best practices for designing and facilitating equitable learning environments—especially for other educators.

Target Audience: All faculty, particularly those interested in facilitating learning for other faculty
Time Commitment: Varies; approx. 20 hours during the academic year
Application process: Invitations to apply will be sent out in the preceding Spring semester.

PACTS

Student-faculty pedagogical partnership program that runs across one semester (collaboration with Equipo and BLAC Council). Focused on enhancing classroom experiences, particularly for Latine and Black/African American students. Currently, this program focuses on 16-week in-person courses only.

Target Audience: All faculty, particularly those who are interested in enhancing their courses and practices through student feedback
Time Commitment: 16 hours during the Spring semester
Application process: Invitations to apply will be sent via prodev@pasadena.edu or through Division Deans in the preceding Fall semester.

Professional Development (PD) Days

PD Days (formerly known as Flex Days) provide an opportunity for faculty, classified staff, and administrators to connect and participate in workshops exploring a range of topics. The College facilitates two PD Days each year (August and March), and the Calendar Standing Committee is responsible for scheduling them.

Target Audience: All faculty
Time Commitment: 6 hours per day
Application process: Invitations to register are sent via prodev@pasadena.edu three weeks prior to the scheduled PD Day.

SanFACC Mentor Program

Year-long program focused on providing mentorship to individuals who are considering a career move into administration. Participants are matched with mentors from colleges in the San Gabriel-Foothill region (Mt. SAC, Glendale Community College, Rio Hondo Community College, and Chaffey Community College).

Target Audience: Faculty seriously considering a transition into formal leadership roles (e.g., Faculty Chair, Dean, etc.)
Time Commitment: Varies; approx. 20 hours during the academic year
Application process: Invitations to apply are sent via Inside-Outside PCC in March.

Vision Resource Center

An online learning platform that includes courses and workshops on a broad range of topics related to teaching and learning, and working in a California Community College. The Vision Resource Center is coordinated through the Foundation for California Community Colleges. At PCC, we also use the Vision Resource Center as our tool for managing registration and documenting attendance for all professional development events. The platform can be accessed at any hour of the day, on any day of the week.

VOICES: Community-Engaged Teaching Course

The Community-Engaged Teaching Course is a four-week, fully online course that introduces principles of community-engaged teaching. In this course, faculty examine local issues of social and environmental justice, address topics of power and privilege, reflect on their teaching practices, and learn about specific community-engaged pedagogical strategies, including community science, justice-oriented citizenship, action civics, and community-based learning.

Target Audience: All faculty, particularly those interested in expanding their knowledge and skillsets related to community-engaged pedagogies
Time Commitment: 10 hours

VOICES: Community-Based Learning Faculty Fellows Program

The Community-Based Learning Faculty Fellows Program supports faculty in the development and implementation of community-based learning (CBL) projects in their courses. CBL projects are designed in collaboration with a community organization, with the goal of addressing both community-identified needs and meeting student learning outcomes. CBL projects can be integrated into existing courses in any discipline.

Target Audience: All faculty, particularly those interested in developing their course(s) to include a community-based learning project
Time Commitment: Approximately 40 hours

Work-Based Learning (WBL) Course

Introduces work-based learning and helps participants develop strategies to incorporate more WBL into their courses in an equitable way. The training is geared toward beginners who are new to WBL and therefore does not require any prerequisite knowledge/experience with facilitating WBL.   

Target Audience: All faculty, particularly those interested in expanding their knowledge and practices related to work-based learning
Time Commitment: 20 hours
