VOICES offers two in-depth professional development opportunities annually that support faculty in learning about and implementing community-engaged pedagogies.

The Community-Engaged Teaching Course is a four-week, fully online course that introduces principles of community-engaged teaching. In this course, faculty examine local issues of social and environmental justice, address topics of power and privilege, reflect on their teaching practices, and learn about specific community-engaged pedagogical strategies, including community science, justice-oriented citizenship, action civics, and community-based learning.’

Time Commitment:  Estimated 2-4 hours per week, for a total of 10 hours

Compensation:  Faculty that complete all four weeks of the online Community-Engaged Teaching course will receive a $500 stipend.

Eligibility: All PCC faculty (full-time, part-time, credit, and non-credit) are eligible to register for the Community-Engaged Teaching Course. Space is limited and seats will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Start Date: TBD

The Community-based Learning Faculty Fellows Program supports faculty in the development and implementation of community-based learning (CBL) projects in their courses. CBL projects are designed in collaboration with a community organization, with the goal of addressing both community-identified needs and meeting student learning outcomes. CBL projects can be integrated into existing courses in any discipline. Depending on the course and community partner needs, community-based learning projects can vary in duration from a few weeks to semester-long projects.

The Faculty Fellows Program supports faculty by:

  • Connecting faculty with potential community partners
  • Providing consultations, guidance, and resources for CBL project and curriculum design, with an emphasis on best practices
  • Providing logistical support for CBL project implementation
  • Creating surveys to assess the impact of CBL on faculty, students, and community partners

Time Commitment: Estimated 40 hours

Compensation: Faculty Fellows receive a $2,000 stipend after implementing a CBL project in their course, attending meetings, and completing evaluation activities.

Eligibility: This is an application-based program. All PCC faculty are eligible to apply (full-time, part-time, credit, and non-credit).

Application Dates and Deadlines: TBD
