Faculty’s flex obligation is detailed in Section 5.12 of the current Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. Currently, the annual obligation is set at 12 hours (6 hours per Professional Development Day X 2 days). The timeline for completing this obligation is July 1st-June 30th (i.e., within the academic/fiscal year).

Faculty can check whether they have met their flex obligation by reviewing their transcript in the Vision Resource Center.  This is the tool the College uses to track flex obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, participating in the activities provided on both of the designated PD Days is one of the easiest ways to meet your Flex Obligation. Keep in mind that the obligation for full-time faculty members is 12 hours, which may be met by participating in at least 6 hours of activities on each of the two annual PD Days, participating in other professional learning activities available throughout the year both on and off campus, or a combination of both.

Various documents can be presented to evidence the number of hours you completed at an off-campus activity, including: certificates of completion, workshop/conference agenda, materials distributed during specific sessions, and/or notes you captured during specific sessions.  Although you do not need to submit these documents to anyone at this time, please remember to maintain this documentation for three years, in the event of an audit.

Yes, online workshops/courses/professional learning activities can count towards your flex obligation as long as you have documentation to evidence the number of hours you completed (e.g., certificates of completion, materials distributed during the activity, and/or notes you captured during the activity, etc.).  Although you do not need to submit these documents to anyone at this time, please remember to maintain this documentation for three years, in the event of an audit.

One of the benefits of the Vision Resource Center is its ability to maintain a continuous record of activities as you participate in them! Activities may be documented in two primary ways: 1) By registering for an activity provided through the Vision Resource Center, or 2) By using the “Submit External Training” button on the welcome page of the Vision Resource Center for anything else.

Example 1: Registration for a workshop provided through the Vision Resource Center. Once registered, simply attend the workshop and sign-in, and the workshop will appear on your transcript.

Example 2: Attend a non-PCC workshop. After the workshop, complete the External Training form located on the Vision Resource Center Welcome Page.
